Google Search Change Could Cause ‘Mobilegeddon’

A look at how Google’s latest change could make all the difference to your website.

So you may have heard the news – Google have changed their mobile algorithm to take into account “mobile friendly” websites from 21st April. You may have heard it called responsive design – we have written a blog on it in the past too. We have been developing our websites like this for the past 18 months because we knew this day would come. Some clients have also updated their old sites to make sure they were ready. How will this effect you if you have a site that isn’t responsive?

Companies without a good mobile website will suffer, as searchers on mobiles will see sites with good mobile experiences ranked higher than those with no mobile or poor mobile sites.

“We will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results,” said Takaki Makino, Chaesang Jung and Doantam Phan in a blog post for Google webmasters.

It makes sense that these responsive sites will be ranked higher because the user experience will be better and Google are all about making the user happy.

If you aren’t mobile ready then please do feel free to contact us. We will get you responsive in no time.
